1. Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections

Aqualyx is a safe, effective fat dissolving injection treatment that reduces fat cells in the treated area. It produces long lasting results, which means you can banish those annoyingly wobbly bits. If you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle and are close to your ideal body weight but have isolated stubborn areas of fat then Aqualyx might be suitable. Popular areas that we treat are exercise resistant pockets of fat around the double chins, gynaecomastia, saddle bags, ‘bingo wings’, thighs and abdomen – including defining a six pack. It is very effective for body contouring, but is not a treatment for weight loss. If you have significant weight then Aqualyx is not suitable for you, but we can offer a weight loss management service including weight loss injections which work by suppressing your appetite.

Aqualyx is not suitable if you:

  • Have diabetes.
  • Have liver or kidney disease.
  • Have an active skin problem in the area to be treated.
  • Are taking blood thinning medicine e.g warfarin.

How soon do you see the results?

The number of Aqualyx treatments required varies depending on the size of the fatty deposit. Typically, 1-3 treatments for small areas, such as the jowls and under the chin, and 2-8 treatments for larger areas such as the thighs. Treatments are spaced at 4 to 6 weekly intervals.

During recovery we recommend that you avoid:

  • Swimming pools, spas and saunas for 3 days.
  • Physical exercise for 10 days.
  • Any other aesthetic treatments for 2 weeks.

You may experience some redness, swelling, light bruising and tenderness in the treated area which will usually resolve within a few days. You may need to take over the counter painkillers to control any pain-related side effects but must not use anti-inflammatories for 48 hours afterwards.

2. Weight Loss Management

With an estimated 23% of the UK population classed as obese, the country has the second highest rate of obesity in Europe. Despite this, the provision of weight loss treatments available on the NHS remains restrictive. Reem provides a weight management service, and is able to prescribe Saxenda pens to aid patients with their weight loss journey.

Saxenda is a simple, painless injection treatment, containing an ingredient called Liraglutide, licensed for weight loss. Liraglutide is similar to a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-peptide (GLP-1) that is released from the intestine after a meal. Saxenda works by acting on receptors in the brain that control the appetite, causing a feeling of fullness, curbing hunger and reducing cravings. This in turn helps to eat less food and reduce body weight.

Saxenda is used as an adjunct in weight management (in conjunction with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity in individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of:

  1. 30 kg/m2or more (having obesity)
  2. or in individuals with a BMI of 27 kg/m2 or more (overweight) in the presence of at least one weight-related co-morbidity, i.e. pre-diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia etc.

Saxenda is given via sub-cutaneous injection once a day using a pen and patients follow a progressive, 4 week dose escalation schedule which is designed to minimise any potential gastrointestinal symptoms.  Patients need one 5 pen pack to complete the dose escalation. Thereafter, one pack equates to one-month treatment at the 3.0mg dose (the maintenance dose). Using the pre-filled pen is very easy, it is designed to be injected on the abdomen, front of thighs or upper arm sub-cutaneously and is administered just once a day.  Contact us to book your free weight management consultation and to assess your medical suitability for the Saxenda weight loss injections.
